We really liked Homer so we were a little sad to be leaving today. We drove back up the Kenai peninsula to Soldotna so that we could restock groceries at the FredMeyer. For those who have never seen a FredMeyer, it is a grocery chain that we first encountered in Canada years ago. The grocery part is similar to a large Safeway. We think the prices for groceries beats Safeway and we also think the quality of the produce is better. And unlike Safeway, they always seem to have non-grocery stuff like clothes and hardware. This one even had signs in the parking lot pointing out where RVs should park along with a dump station and potable water. We got to Soldotna shortly after noon so we got groceries, put them in the trailer, and went back for lunch. They have a counter with both hot and cold food along with some tables where you can eat. It wasn’t great but it was quick and cheap. After lunch we continued on to Cooper Landing. The RV park is part of the Kenai Princess Lodge. Staying in the campground allows the use of the facilities such as the lodge, restaurant, spa, and gift shop. The lodge also has a WiFi hotspot that is free. After we got setup, we hiked up to the lodge lugging our laptops. It was a hike "up" as there is a stair case that climbs at least 100 vertical feet. The lodge sits on a bluff overlooking the river below. There is a deck with an awesome view. Both sides of the river have mountains with snow on them. After we finished doing the internet thing, we got a table on the deck for a beer and glass of wine. We think we will try their restaurant for dinner tomorrow. We got back to the trailer and cooked fresh salmon (what else?) that we bought in the FredMeyer earlier.
