Homer to Cooper Landing

Leslie Monday, August 11, 2008

Today was a beautiful drive up the western coast of the Kenai Peninsula. We were able to see the volcano off the coast.

And a pretty lighthouse.

We made a stop at the Fred Myers store in Soldatna. Fred Myers is a grocery/walmart-type store common in Canada and Alaska. We’ve decided that we like it better than Safeway. We wanted to resupply before we head down the eastern coast to Seward. We were able to get some fresh red salmon that was excellent.

We’re now staying at the Kenai Princess lodge and RV park.

The RV park is located in a pretty wooded sections along the Kenai River. Because of aggressive bear activity in the past month to avoid any smells of food that might attract bears, they have mobile dumpsters that are available only from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. We climbed the hill to enjoy WIFI at the Princess lodge. It was certainly more enjoyable use WIFI in the beautiful lobby of the resort lodge than in the many campground laundry rooms. :-) The lodge has a very pretty deck with baskets of flowers over looking the river.
