This was a picture perfect day. There was sunshine and blue skies. We drove from Tok to Glennallan. Glennallan is about half the distance between Tok and Palmer where we will park the rig for about ten days. Not only was the weather wonderful but the road was such an improvement over yesterday. The real highlight of the day is that while driving along we saw a moose cow in a lake to the side of the road. She was eating plants off of the bottom of the lake and ignoring all of the cars stopping to watch. This is only the second time we have ever seen a moose in the wild so this is a big deal. We got to Glennallan and picked a campground based on the recommendation of a guide we have been using. I was suspicious as the name of the campground is Tolsona Wilderness Campground. The word “wilderness” makes me think that the place is primitive meaning no running water. We it turns out that it is one of the best campgrounds we have ever stayed in. Our site backs up to a running stream. The sites are spaced far apart and there are a lot of trees. We may plan to stay here again as we want to see Valdez and this would be on the way to there after we spend some time in Anchorage, Homer, and perhaps Seward. After dinner, we had a campfire and just enjoyed sitting there and watching the flames. Sunset was about 10:00 p.m. and the sun rises around 3:00 a.m. Between those two times it never really gets too dark but rather it is twilight.

Found A MOOSE
Leslie Wednesday, July 2, 2008
We finally found a moose. For Julie Grace and Gary Buchanan in Bexhill, NSW, Australia – we’ve been looking for a moose for more than 7 years and today we finally found one.
Here’s your moose:

We were driving along the Glenn Highway from Tok towards Glen Allen (on the way towards Anchorage) and suddenly I yelled, "slow down, there’s a MOOSE". I was right. The moose was calmly eating her lunch around 11:30 this morning. We were able to pull off the road a bit so that I could jump out of the truck to take these pictures. Ms. Moose just looked up at me!
After the moose we continued along the Glenn Highway (which I have to comment isn’t in that great of shape). There were our share of frost heaves ever so cleverly hidden when you least expect them. Bounce, ouch, ugh, no no!!!!!
I had determined that we would spend tonight at Tolsona Wilderness Campground about 15 miles west of Glen Allen. We’ve found the perfect wilderness. Although this is a private campground, one would think that you were in a national forest. The sites are spaced with vegetation between them. Each site has a picnic table and campfire ring and some sites have electricity and water. They have a dump station. Behind our site there is a bubbling stream where others are catching fish. The mosquitoes aren’t too bad. We think we’ve found nirvana. Check out these pictures of our site.

And the view from the back of our site:

And... the best part, we have free WIFI at our site! There are sparkling clean showers for .25 for 5 minutes and a laundry. We’re thinking of returning here for a week after we go to Brook Camp to visit the grizzly bears.
Now, I need a photo of a bear.
