Robert, Wednesday, July 2
This was a picture perfect day. There was sunshine and blue skies. We drove from Tok to Glennallan. Glennallan is about half the distance between Tok and Palmer where we will park the rig for about ten days. Not only was the weather wonderful but the road was such an improvement over yesterday. The real highlight of the day is that while driving along we saw a moose cow in a lake to the side of the road. She was eating plants off of the bottom of the lake and ignoring all of the cars stopping to watch. This is only the second time we have ever seen a moose in the wild so this is a big deal. We got to Glennallan and picked a campground based on the recommendation of a guide we have been using. I was suspicious as the name of the campground is Tolsona Wilderness Campground. The word “wilderness” makes me think that the place is primitive meaning no running water. We it turns out that it is one of the best campgrounds we have ever stayed in. Our site backs up to a running stream. The sites are spaced far apart and there are a lot of trees. We may plan to stay here again as we want to see Valdez and this would be on the way to there after we spend some time in Anchorage, Homer, and perhaps Seward. After dinner, we had a campfire and just enjoyed sitting there and watching the flames. Sunset was about 10:00 p.m. and the sun rises around 3:00 a.m. Between those two times it never really gets too dark but rather it is twilight.
