The sun finally shone! Yes, this is cause for celebration. We dug out our lounge chairs and had a sit.

Really we spent most of the day driving the surrounding area of Haines. There is an old Army post, Fort Seward. The post was deactivated by the Army just after WWII. However it was purchased by some veterans who intended to make it into a resort. After a few false starts, currently it houses some B&Bs, galleries, and a few private homes. The former parade ground still stands as an open area. We laughed at the tourist booklet trying to explain what a parade ground is used for: i.e., parades! The tourist booklet explained that when the post was active they held morning revelry and afternoon retreat on the parade ground. Duh? Of course that occurs on every Army post.
Here is a picture of the view from Fort Seward.
