Off to the Interior

Robert, Monday, June 30

About 40 miles north of Haines you cross the border into British Columbia. The day started with overcast skies and soon it was raining. In rain and low overcast, seeing much of anything is almost impossible. We got to our campground in Destruction Bay, Yukon Territories in mid afternoon. The campground is along the banks of a huge lake. We got set up and took a short walk but the weather was cool and soon we went back inside. Back in Haines we discovered that our hot water stopped working on propane. When we take showers, we run both the electric element and the propane heat for hot water so that it doesn’t take as long for the water to get really hot between showers. On 15-amp service, the electric element in the water heater trips breakers, so now we had no hot water. On the positive side, the campground had really nice and clean showers.
