Tolsona Wilderness Campground
We had a 150 mile short drive today south from Tok, AK to Genallen, AK along the Tok Cutoff. Although not as bad as the Alaska Highway between Haines Junction and the US border, the road was extremely bumpy almost the entire route. The road damage was either a result of significant frost damage or unrepaired damage from the 2002 earthquake.
Along the way we were treated to stunning views of the Wrangell mountains.
Weather changes fast along the mountain range. Notice the nasty-looking clouds. The second picture was taken only 20 minutes after the first.
We’ve observed a unique form of graffiti along the roads in northern Canada and Alaska. People have arranged rocks to spell names on the gravel banks along the road. This is an example of a simple display. Sometimes the entire gravel bank is cluttered with rock graffiti.
Our destination for today and the next three days is a favorite campground, Tolsona Wilderness in Glenallen, AK. In 2008 we liked this place so well that we actually stayed here three different times. The sites are nicely spaced with lots of trees. A fast moving stream runs behind our site.
As evening came, the temperature dropped to around 50 degrees even through it was still very sunny. We enjoyed a nice campfire while we waited for dinner to finish cooking.
Our traveling crew has considered naming ourselves the Texas Gourmands because we cook and eat so well. Usually each couple is on their own for breakfast and lunch, but we take turns cooking for both couples for dinner. Fortunately we all like to cook so this arrangement has resulted in many fantastic meals!

We are appreciating the road reports which will help us to know what to keep an eye out for!
Leslie & Robert,
It looks as if you're having a Great time... and I love the pictures of the Grizzly! Glad you enjoyed the "Marionberries" as well with Stan & Connie. :-) 2009 was a "Good Year", but the 2010 berries are coming on strong as well. We'll be picking them by the end of July.
