Today we went to Skagway. That meant we needed to take our passports as we were entering the US from Canada. The drive is only about 1 ½ hours. We left the trailers in Carcross and just went for a day trip.
There is a lot to see and do in Skagway. In the town’s first heyday the principle industry was milking the prospectors who were bound for the Klondike goldfields. Now the principle industry is milking the tourists who arrive on the cruise ships. Funny how things stay the same!
The main street is lined with shops selling gold jewelry, souvenirs, more gold jewelry, souvenirs, etc. We did go to the Park Service building in town and watch a 30 minute movie on the gold rush. It was well worth seeing and it was free.
The main reason for going to town was to retrieve our mail and for Stan and Connie to get some packages; all from the Post Office. We got our mail but the post office said they had a big pile of unsorted mail in the back and they would not get it sorted out until tomorrow. Apparently their packages were in the pile. We ate lunch and proceeded to explore the town. There were several trains in town. I did take a shot of a snow blower that looks like it is still in service.
Just a little way outside of town is an old cemetery. While the cemetery is interesting, the real reason we came here is to see the waterfall just a short walk beyond.
The falls are quite impressive.

Finally we hiked a short way to get a view of the Skagway harbor.
As they would say in Canada,”Pretty, aye?”
