Robert - It’s getting lighter earlier in the morning and staying lighter later in the evening. The temperature today started in the low 40s and got to the upper 60s by mid afternoon. I just hope that spring weather sets in with a vengeance. Stan set out for Hope, BC to get his truck fixed. It turns out the repair was fairly simple and he was back around 11:00 a.m.. In the meantime, I worked on getting our new printer working. I can get it to print from one laptop and then it won’t print from the other. We have absolute zero cell phone service so I can’t call Epson tech support. Actually I’m not convinced their tech support has a clue anyway. After lunch we all set out to see Hell’s Gate. This is a place on the Fraser River where the canyon narrows and the water flow changes from a normal river to a cascade. On the way there we stopped and the local grocery/hardware store. The store is typical of many similar stores we will see on this trip. The food selection is on a par with your local 7-11 and the hardware, which was located in the basement of this store, consists of a few odds and ends. After the store, we got to Hell’s Gate which was about 5 miles away. To see Hell’s Gate, you buy a ticket ($19) and ride down from the road to the other side of the river. The vertical descent is something like 600 feet. At the bottom is a collection of building with a fudge and ice cream store, a museum, a gift shop, and a snack bar. There is a suspension bridge across the river. It is worth 2-3 hours of seeing the river and wandering around. Here are the shops at the bottom of the gorge.
After Hell’s Gate we came back to the campground and rested up after our busy day! For the first time on this trip it was nice enough to eat outside at a picnic table. We then built a campfire in the fire ring and sat around and talked.
