After yesterday of being trailer-bound, we were all getting a little stir crazy. We needed propane as we each had an empty tank. The rule after leaving Dawson Creek and heading north is to get fuel at every convenient location and the same rule applies to propane. There are long stretches of highway without any services. We all piled in Stan and Connie’s truck and headed to a place called Bucking Horse. It is a gas station/bus stop/café next to the Bucking Horse River. We had Jackie, the owner of the campground where we are staying, phone ahead to make sure they had propane. The ride was only about 15 minutes. Right across the road is a campground that is for the oil line workers only. We decided to eat lunch in the café and it wasn’t too bad. The menu is limited but the burgers were tasty. Jackie had told us that the Greyhound bus was scheduled to arrive at 11:30 and we were there around 1:00 so there weren’t many people in the café which probably had 15-16 seats. After we were served the bus arrived. It was late. Suddenly there were a dozen people standing in line to get food to take back on the bus. We were glad we had been served before the hordes arrived. When we get back to the campground, we walked around the campground and up and down the river. That was pretty much it.
We did get the news that Dawson Creek received a foot of wet snow just after we left. It brought down power lines and something like 6,000 were without power. I guess the cold rain we got here wasn’t so bad after all.
