The weather was gorgeous today! Yes, the sun does shine occasionally in Alaska.

As our friend Fred said the other evening, the weather makes a huge difference in how we experience a town. We love Homer. We’ve worked out our schedule from now until we arrive at Denali on August 25 and determined that we can stay longer in Homer than we originally planned.
While this campground doesn’t have full hook-ups, showers only cost $1.00 for unlimited time. A long shower is a huge luxury because we have only a 10 gallon hot water heater in the rig. When we’re hooked up to water we can each take as long a shower as we wish, but the hot water will run out at 10 gallons.
Each summer the propane company in Colorado sets the price per gallon of propane for the coming year (June to June). Based on that price per gallon, they assess us a monthly rate based on the prior year’s usage. The notice we just received estimates our cost at $180 more per month than last year. I think it may be less expensive to travel south and live in our rig than to stay at home for the winter.
We visited the public library for internet access and drove through downtown Homer. In late afternoon we checked out a Farmer’s Market.
There were about 15 venders, some highly specialized. One man was selling only cucumbers! We bought some homemade black cherry jam and apple butter.
I thought these boots of flowers were pretty.

Later we walked along the spit and visited the small boat harbor.

I saw these small boats at a coffee shop along the water.

And this dog really moves in luxury.

We had noticed a number of nice looking restaurants on the boardwalk so we decided to eat dinner out. We waited nearly an hour for a table so our expectations were high. I agree with Robert that dinner was okay but not great. He does a much better job grilling fish.
