Robert, Sunday, August 17
We made plans to go to Wasilla today. We picked a campground that we checked out when we were in Palmer. Wasilla and Palmer are both north of Anchorage and they are about ten miles apart. After that we drove to the Exit Glacier. It is about ten miles from the campground. There is a very large ice field that sits among a number of mountain peaks to the west of Seward. There are something like 40 glaciers that snake from this ice field to the ocean and to ground. The ones that go to the ground all have streams of water running from beneath them. There is nothing to Exit Glacier that sets it apart from any other glacier other than there is a road the leads to a visitor’s center which is about 2 miles from the face. You cannot actually walk to the face without wading through the stream so we passed that up. We did hike a few trails to get a better view. After that, we stopped to eat dinner in a restaurant on the way home. I had shrimp which were good and Leslie had crab cakes which were just barely OK.
