Frugally we took showers and got hooked-up this morning. Everything went okay. We didn’t have to jump the trailer batteries. We visited the state park dump station and bear-proof dumpster and were soon on our way. The interstate battery place was easy to find. I stayed in the truck while Robert and the “guys” dealt with the battery issues.
We’re perplexed. At the battery place they tested the batteries and reported that the batteries are fine. Apparently there is nothing wrong with the batteries so we don’t know why we didn’t have sufficient charge to pull up the landing gear. After the battery testing we decided to keep the new batteries and the old ones as well. When we eventually get to Chanute, KS (the factory) we’ll have them add an additional battery tray so we can use all four batteries at once.
After noon we continued to Portage Glacier. We had visited Portage Glacier in 1986 when we first visited Alaska to visit our friends Carol & Jay McDevitt who were stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage. In 1986 we walked from the Visitor’s Center to Portage Glacier. Now due to the glacier receding, you can’t even see the glacier from the Visitor’s Center. Portage Glacier has receded around the corner of Portage Lake. We did take some pictures of the scenery around the Visitor’s Center.

See the ice block that fell off the glacier.

Our campsite is in the National Forest at Wiliwaw National Forest. It is a very nice national forest campground with widely separated sites. There are no hookups or water/dumpstation so we needed to be totally self-sufficient. We enjoyed the wooded site. Notice the wheelchair accessible space at the picnic table.
