Off to the Hot Springs

Robert, Sunday, July 18
Got off to another slow start today. Breakfast and lunch and all of the normal things occupied the morning through early afternoon. As we had good internet connection, we tried to install Skype. In case that is an unknown term, it is a phone service over the internet. The normal cost they charge for long distance is 2.4 cents a minute. Even when calling places like Europe, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and many more places. Although we had good internet speed in the campground (we were about 50 feet from the campground wifi antenna), we got very poor results. They have a number you can call and record a message that is played right back. The playback was almost impossible to understand. There are reports that some internet connections just don’t work so we will try it again when we have another internet connection.
In the afternoon we went to the hot springs. They are located a short distance in the national park. The hot springs consists of two large swimming pools–one is the hot pool and one is the cold pool. At one end of the hot pool is a hot tub where the water from the hot springs enters. It is about 103 F. Then the water enters the hot pool, which is cooler but nice and warm. The warm pool really isn’t for swimming but rather for sitting along the edge and enjoying the water. The cold pool is really for swimming–it has a diving board and the water temperature is just like any swimming pool. While we were in the hot pool, the weather clouded up and it started to spit light rain. But by the time we got back to the trailer, the sun was out and so we grilled outside. Just another great day.
I didn’t get this posted before we left Radium Hot Springs and we don’t have wifi at the campground in Banff so that is why this is posted so long after the fact.
