Tundra Lodge and RV Park

This morning we escaped the mud-hole at the Border City Campground and continued north on the Alaska Highway.

I had remembered an interesting wildlife center, Tetlin National Wildlife Center, located a few miles north. The center has interesting displays of wildlife from the surrounding area and a large observation deck with binoculars.  Although the weather was threatening rain, we stopped for a brief visit.

Cache-2

This cache is located to the left of the entrance.  The cache is a demonstration of traditional meat storage.  The hunter would store the fresh meat in the cache to keep it safe from other predators.  The roof of the cache is sod to keep the inside cool.

Inside the Tetlin Center they have an interesting display of animal feet (plaster I think) in a sand box.  You can use the various feet to make paw prints in the sand to teach you to recognize the various tracks in the woods.

I was glad we had the morning stop at the Wildlife Center because our afternoon was all work.  We arrived at Tundra Lodge and RV Park around 1:30.  Our rigs were dirtier than they had ever been previously and we were desperate to get them washed.  Tundra has a high pressure vehicle wash; $15 for unlimited time (time limited only by your muscles).  We spent over 3 hours washing both trucks and 5th wheels.  After much pressure washing and manual scrubbing, they are all white again!

Tundra Lodge and RV Park is delightful.  The sites are long and widely separated with nice trees.  The owners are very friendly.  WIFI is available in the lodge and there is free firewood.  We had stayed here in September 2008 as well.
