Sikanni River Campground

Robert - Thursday, May 20
This was a travel day. The start things off, it was raining this morning. It seems like it often rains on days when hooking up or setting up. I needed to get fuel and once that was done, we hooked up and headed north. The cost of diesel was $1.019 Canadian for a liter. That is the same as $3.875 Canadian per gallon. However, the station I used is connected to a grocery store and we got a coupon that reduced the cost to $3.867 per gallon. We can use the coupon when we get to Whitehorse. Today covered the part of the Alaska Highway where we were towed two years ago. We saw the Ford dealership where we camped out waiting for the truck to be fixed. We passed Wonowon, BC where the tow truck stopped for a break, and finally passed the place where we broke down. (Wonowon is the town located at Milepost 101 on the highway.) The campground where we stopped is just beyond where we broke down. We wanted to stop here as the campground is our kind of place and they were so kind to Leslie when she walked back here for help. The campground has sites that are scattered more-or-less randomly around a large graveled space. The only hookups at the site we are in is 15 (or maybe 20) amp electric. There is a hose where you can fill up the fresh water tank and a dump station. There is no cell phone service. If there had been we could have called for help when we broke down rather than Leslie walking a couple of miles to use a pay phone. Also there is no TV nor WiFi.
We got here, filled the fresh water tank, and set up. The owners said we might want to stay for the four days we had planned to stay. They said we could stay whatever time we wanted and then just pay them for however long we stayed. I took a nap in the recliner and I think everyone else did the same. Around 5:00 we got a wheelbarrow of firewood (self-service) and built a campfire. The temperature was only about 45F and around 7:00 p.m. the wind picked up and the temperature dropped a bit. It just got too cool to eat outside around the campfire. Shortly after dinner, I crashed. Dinner was fairly late as it is staying light later and later. It is light at 4:30 a.m. and it doesn’t get dark until after 10:00 p.m.
Here is a shot of our campsite. We are on the left and Stan and Connie are on the right. We are right on the Sakanni River.

Walking about 100 feet straight ahead, here is a view of the river and the Alaska Highway. Headed north, we crossed the bridge and turned left into the campground.
