Dusty Roads

Dusty Roads
We endured miles any miles of dusty roads to drive from Watson lake to Liard Hot Springs.

We passed through many sections where traffic had to wait for a pilot car to lead along a single lane of traffic. The scenery was beautiful but the drive was grueling.

I did get a chance to photograph a raven at a rest area. This poor bird had a broken wing. He was most accommodating about letting me get pretty close to take his picture.

Lliard Hot Springs

Our destination was Lliard Hot Springs. I was really looking forward to this place because the pictures of the hot springs showed a rustic spring with a wooden walkway, unlike the concrete pools we’ve seen elsewhere. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t with me. As we arrived in the late afternoon the blackest cloud followed us. Soon it was pouring rain. We discussed going to the hot springs to survey the parking situation so we could determine whether we could stop by in the morning. After supper the weather had cleared so we drove across to the provincial park and determined that yes, we could fit the rig in their parking lot in the morning. I walked a short way down the boardwalk and was thinking that this would be a fun excursion. Wednesday morning the pitter patter of rain drops could be heard on our roof. Bummer! I’m still not going to get to the hot springs. We considered staying at Lliard Hot Spring another day but the campground is rather shabby and our schedule has gotten a bit tight. Last night I mapped out our route to return to Colorado and we determined that have 16 nights assigned and only 6 nights “in the bank”. I was reluctant to spend a bank day in a shabby place in the rain hoping for the illusive sun.
