As we left Casper this morning we decided to drive through the city in pursuit of a breakfast treat (hopefully doughnuts). Downtown Casper still has many very old buildings. They also have low railroad culverts. As we were following the road signs toward I-25 we both suddenly yelped at the same time – oh, no, that bridge just ahead says clearance is only 13 ft. We’re at least 13" 4" high. Guess we’re not going that way. We made a quick detour through the Post Office mailing lane and took off heading generally south and ignoring the GPS and the immediate sign. In not too long we saw more signs for I-25 south and we were back on our way. Those overhead clearances certainly aren’t signed very far in advance!
We’ve had wonderful sunny weather for driving the past week. Yesterday and today we even ran the air conditioner in the truck! We’ve enjoyed watching lots of antelopes grazing along the side of the road. This is antelope hunting season so I’m surprised we are seeing so many.
We arrived in Cheyenne, Wymoming by mid-afternoon. That gave me a chance to go shopping at the Sierra Trading Post Outlet. I was looking for things for the cruise but most of the clothes were for skiing.
We’re staying in Cheyenne for only one night. Cheyenne is an old frontier town and it looked as if there is enough here to merit another visit when we have more time. We did go downtown for dinner in the old art deco train station. Cheyenne is a major railroad junction point. You can see hundreds of trains along the sidings.
Later I did the major cleaning before we put the rig in storage for two months. Because we don’t have water at the storage lot, I wanted to do all the water-based cleaning here. Tomorrow we’ll drain the tanks and winterize the rig before we drive back to stix & bricks.
