Trip to the Big City

We got going this morning as we had a whole list of things we needed to get done in Anchorage. They were things like get Cody and Molly registered at the vet Clinic where we are going to board them. We did this as Monday morning we don’t have to do much more than to drop them off. The clinic opens at 7:00 a.m. and we are supposed to be checked in for our flight by 7:50 a.m. That doesn’t give us much time to get to the airport, park the truck, and get inside. We also wanted to be sure we knew where the place is located where we are taking the trailer for service after we get back. And we wanted to eat lunch in a restaurant called Humpy’s where we had eaten the last time we were in Anchorage. It’s really just a bar but it was first recommended to us as a place where the locals go and the food was good. Well, the food was still good. Although I remembered how to get around in town, we used the GPS to find many of the places we wanted to find. Just enter the address and it navigates to the place. One thing that really struck me is that after spending almost two months staying in places with a population of 2,000 that Anchorage is a big town, at least by Alaska standards. It is easy to see why many in Alaska say, “Anchorage is not the real Alaska.” There were a few places we wanted to get to but didn’t. When we get back from Brooks Camp we will drive to Anchorage a couple of times so we can get to those places then. We got back home and grilled a steak–not fish tonight! Of course lunch was fish so we haven’t yet gotten our fill of fish. After dinner we watched a little TV and hit the sack. One more thing about Anchorage being a big town; for the first time we can get digital TV in the trailer. The TV has a feature that goes through all of the TV channels looking for signals. When it finds one, it saves it in memory so that you don’t have to look at blank screens trying to find the channel where the stations are. When it finished searching, there were digital stations as well as analog stations. They were the same stations except the picture was so much better on the digital channels. In about six months this will be the norm. It is a little odd to be watching channel 2-1 or 13-3 after years of channel numbers like 2.
