Banff Tunnel Mountain

Leslie Monday, May 19, 2008

We left this morning for Banff. Weather was cool, around 55 degrees. The travel was only about 100 miles, three hours. That’s the kind of day we like.

We had secured a two day reservation at Tunnel Mountain Trailer Village in Banff National Park. According to the reservation system, spring is May 18 - June 21st – summer follows that. I guess because it is so early, the campground isn’t too crowded. I think about half of the sites are full. This is an unusual governmental campground as the sites are widely separated and they have full hook-ups. We had anticipated a crowded parking lot so we were very pleasantly surprised. They sites are excellent, lots of room between them and trees as separators.

Because it is so chilly, I had made a crock pot stew for dinner. As we sat eating dinner, I jumped up –"what is that?" It was a coyote. He walked along our site with his nose in the air. He hung around for maybe 15 minutes before disappearing into the woods.

Later we went walking through the campground. After Robert had returned to our site, I walked a bit further and came upon three elk grazing. I watched the elk for 30 minutes. They didn’t seem bothered by my presence at all.

More later,
Leslie
